Huawei has announced an all-new MateBook X, MateBook D, and MateBook E at a special event in Berlin. All three devices are powered by Windows 10. Alongside, the Chinese manufacturer also made the Honor Band A2 official. Huawei MateBook X, also touted as company’s own take on Apple Macbook Air and MateBook D are essentially laptops. While the MateBook E is a convertible tablet-cum-laptop. Here’s a closer look at features of the products announced.
MateBook X is certainly the highlight of the new line-up of Huawei’s laptop lineup. The MateBook X has a 13-inch display with 2K resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The ‘ultraportable’ laptop features a regular aluminum clamshell design with 88 percent screen-to-body ratio and 4.4mm bezels. It is powered by 7th Generation Intel Core processor (Core i7 and Core i5). The MateBook X boasts a fan-less design, and houses a 41.4Wh battery. The speakers on this laptop are co-designed by Dolby and thus it also comes with Dolby ATMOS Sound System. It also has a fingerprint scanner embedded into the power button and is compatible with Windows Hello.
The MateBook X offers a total of four variants — 128GB SSD/4GB RAM, 256GB SSD/4GB RAM, 128GB SSD/8GB RAM and 256GB SSD/8GB RAM. The laptop is also available in multiple color options — Prestige Gold, Space Gray and Rose Gold. The MateBook X retails from around $1,599 (approximately Rs 100,000), which goes up to $1,899 (approximately Rs 129,000). Huawei’s MateBook D features a 15.6-inch display with Full HD (1080p) resolution and 83 percent screen-to-body ratio. This one is powered by 7th Generation Intel processor (Core i7 or Core i5). For the graphics, the MateBook D has Nvidia GE940 MX GPU on board. It also has the Dolby ATMOS Sound System and speaker hardware co-engineered by Dolby.
The MateBook D is available with three RAM configurations — 4GB RAM, 8GB RAM and 16GB RAM. This can be combined with four storage options available from 128GB to 1TB. It will come in three color options — Champagne Gold, Space Grey, and Aurora Blue. The MateBook D retails from around $999 (approximately Rs 64,000), which goes up to $1,299 (approximately Rs 84,000).
Essentially a convertible MateBook E is successor, Huawei’s MateBook 2-in-1 launched last year. The MateBook E features a 12-inch display with 2K resolution while the original MateBook 2-in-1 offered Full HD (1080p) resolution. The sleek convertible has 84 percent screen-to-body ratio and continues with the leather folio backlit keyboard from its previous generation.
It is powered by the 7th Generation Intel i7 processor (from Core M to Core i5). The MateBook E comes with 4GB and 8GB RAM options, which can be combined with 128GB SSD, 256GB SSD or 512GB SSD storage options. Huawei claims the 4,430mAh battery packed within can keep the MateBook E running up to nine hours. It is available in two color options — Titanium Grey and Champagne Gold. The MateBook E retails from around $1,199 (approximately Rs 77,000), which goes up to $1,499 (approximately Rs 97,000). Apart from laptops and tablet, Huawei also took the stage to announce an all new Honor fitness tracker. Dubbed as A2, the band is essentially an activity tracker. It features a 0.96-inch OLED display and a water-resistant strap. The A2 band also doubles up as heart rate tracker and comes with Bluetooth connectivity support. The new wearable functions as a pedometer, sleep tracker, exercise tracker, and also sedentary reminder which alerts you if you have been idle or in rest for too long. The Honor Band A2 seems to be a China exclusive for now, and will retail at a price of CNY 199 (approximately Rs 1,899).
